Welcome to the Basic Sports Med for Manual Therapists Course!

We will be taking you through a high-level overview and fundamental knowledge of different sports medical professionals, techniques, and treatments that you may encounter as a massage practitioner. Learn ten different types of professions from personal trainers or assistants to surgeons. Understand what a doctor or patient may refer to when talking medical terminology inside your massage session. And gain keen insights into various sports med occupations and how they work with massage therapists through exclusive interviews from sports med professionals. Course Objectives
  • Identify and introduce 10 professions in the sports medicine world, what their education requirements are, what their job entails, and what setting they work in. 
  • Introduce 6 common tools and tests that are used to diagnose the most common musculoskeletal ailments; explain how those tools work and when they are used.
  • Describe 13 common treatment options athletes use for injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation; explain how they work and why an athlete might choose to use them.  

Course Creator

Sarah King, LMT, CPT
 
Sarah has been a movement specialist for 12 years with additional CrossFit, powerlifting, rowing, and weightlifting coaching certifications. She obtained her massage therapy license during her coaching tenure from Bellevue Massage School, and has worked on hundreds of athletes and several teams over the years with CrossFunction Sports Massage. Sarah works closely with various medical professionals in her interactions with clients and colleagues.
 
Sarah has served 10 years in various fields within the U.S. Army. She has participated in cycling events, Strong Man competitions, CrossFit competitions, and sprint triathlons. She loves kinesiology and how the body moves and functions. She has taken courses in sports massage, massage cupping, IASTM, kinesiotaping, and other modalities, along with having a certification in intraoral and TMJ pathologies. She will soon have her B.S. in Exercise Science from the American Military University.

        NEXT STEPS TOWARD CERTIFICATE COMPLETION

        We look forward having you join the team of Sports Massage Specialists! After program completion you will receive your CrossFunction Sports Massage Specialist title (CSMS) and certificate, 70 CE's sports massage education, and have the opportunity to be a part of our exclusive sports massage portal and team.

        Our program consists of two options:

        A La Carte, where you take the online section 1 and online section 2 bundles: 

        • Bedrock Blueprint: Foundations

        • Sports Massage 101

        • Ethics in Sports Massage

        • Kinesiology of Sports Massage

        • Basic Sports Med

        • Sports Massage Sideline

        • choice: Business of Sports Massage (either online, or live with the class in section 2 live)

        And then take Live section 1 and Live Section 2 on-site curriculum.

        • Section 1 (three-day: Intro to Sports Mechanics and Massage, Sports Injuries/Assessments, Intro to Manual Therapy Tools)

        • Section 2 (four days: Business of sports massage, Overhead athletes, endurance athletes, power athletes, and Advanced Sports Mechanics and Massage; includes final exam)
